Chalk Walk Rules

It’s time to paint the town orange... well, chalk the town orange at least. Participate in this year’s Chalk Walk on the Okmulgee Square sidewalk surrounding the Creek Council House.

The theme for this year’s Chalk Walk event is “OrangeFest” which may include OSU logos, Pistol Pete, or be interpreted in other ways (e.g. citrus). The design must incorporate the color orange.

Completely fill out the Entry Form. If you need more space, use the back of the form and/or an extra sheet of paper. Be sure to write your full name on any additional pages.

Leave the boxed area “Official Use Only” blank. Application form must be submitted at the time of the event or to Okmulgee Main Street Office on or before April 13. Squares will be awarded on a first-come, first served basis. All artwork must be suitable for public viewing.

The artist (including minors) must agree to the re-use, publish and re-published photography of the artist or artwork in any media. The artist (including minors) further grants Okmulgee Main Street the use of the artists’ name, biographical description and likeness in any media.

Teams may include up to four people. Each team member must fill out a separate registration form. Put the name of each team member in the designated blanks. It also helps us keep track if you give your team a name, this is required on each team member’s registration.

Artwork will be judged separately in the following categories: Ribbons & prizes will be awarded to Kids, Youth, and Adult winners in each category.

Best of Show Kid’s Gallery (1yrs-5yrs)
  • Adult -
  • Youth -
  • Kids -
All artists are automatically entered in this category. The judges will be looking for the best of all the artwork in the competition. Children will have free chalk to draw in a pre-determined area on the square. These drawings will NOT be judged. This in an activity just for the kiddos to enjoy.

Children and Adults Working Together:

Yes, this is allowed! Please Note: If an adult does ANY chalking, the team MUST be registered in the ADULT category. Adults may watch their children or students, but they may not help them “fill in” or create any of the artwork.

Registration will begin Friday, April 13 at 1 p.m. at the Information Tent. You must register before you can begin drawing. Artists will be assigned a specific taped off area on the sidewalk around the Council House. All drawings may begin at 1 p.m. or anytime thereafter. All artwork must be completed by 6:00 p.m., as this is when the judging will begin.

Judges will be determined prior to the festival. They will be unbiased local people consisting of festival sponsors, featured artists, and/or members of the “Chalk Walk” committee. Judging will begin at 6:00 p.m. and winners will be announced at approximately 7:00 p.m. on the main stage. A group photo of the winners will follow.

Chalk will be provided to all artists at registration (limited supplies). The artwork must be completed using water-based, temporary chalk. Chalk is, or course, water-soluble and is therefore not permanent. If you would like to bring your own, please do! It MUST be water based, dry pastel chalk or temporary chalk and approved at registration. Oil-based media, fixatives and all other permanent media are not allowed. After the festival ends, the drawings will soon wash away by the rain or with traffic. Make sure you take plenty of photos, as these drawings will not stay forever outdoors.
